Rlyehian
 

Rlyehian is the language of The Old Ones and a ceremonial dialect for The Cult of Cthulhu.

Putting into words the reality of surreality and the surreality of our reality is very difficult.

This is why Rlyehian is sacred to us - it transcends the traditional mediums that we use to communicate in ways much deeper than cognitive understanding can perceive.

It is not a language intended for the human tongue and is often (but not always) described as guttural or inhuman when heard aloud. This is because our renditions are merely the closest that the human vocal apparatus can come to reproducing these syllables borne of an alien language.

The full understanding of Rlyehian is complex and detailed fully by a language expert in The Bible of Cthulhu, but as a beginners guide:

 

Rlyehian is a ceremonial language. Meaning that it is not meant for every day communication (much like what Latin and Ancient Greek have become).

• Verbs have only two tenses: present and not-present, since The Old Ones experience time in a non-linear fashion.

 

• Pronouns may or may not appear.

 

Taken out of context any fragment's translation is nothing more than guesswork.
